things i see

after following dad and aunt around hawking sea cucumber at jaya one i noticed a few things at work.

Having connections is extremely important to be successful in life. sometimes it's not what you know, it's who you know. and there are some people who make it just by being friends with a powerful person who can extend his hand to do many things for you. it makes life much harder for people who work for everything they have with sheer grit and determination, but then you can also say this: those people aren't smart enough to make the necessary connections are they? it's like studying smart and studying hard. the people who rely solely on hard work would be studying very hard whereas the people who make the right moves with the right people would be the ones who are studying smart.

Sad, but such is life.

I've also had the chance to come across this power couple who bought a couple of kilos of sea cucumber of us the other day. it was rare for me to see a husband of 40 very much in love with his wife and for me to see a lady not typical of that of a power couple either (usually you would see a strong-weak husbandwife dynamic ie. macho man followed by a trailing meek woman or a scary looking sour faced lady with a gentle obliging husband). These two were loving and kind with each other as well as other people around them. They helped an old lady they didn't know carry her groceries across the walkway. It's nice to see rich successful people act like that.

having the gift of the gab is also a talent and CAN be learned, contrary to popular belief (and what i thought). it's all about confidence.

hopefully i would have learned enough by the end of my stint as free labourer to sustain myself in business in the future.
